GOLDEN MAHARASHTRA - INFRASTRUCTURE SUMMIT
 

 

Maharashtra Economic Development Council (MEDC) and Government of Maharashtra jointly organized a
summit “Golden Maharashtra – Infrastructure Summit” on 4th & 5th of August 2009.

The summit provided platform to showcase the progress made by the various agencies in the state.

Maharashtra chief minister (CM) Ashok Chavan inaugurated the summit on 4th of August 2009. Other dignitaries include Ajit Gulab Chand, CMD HCC and Chhagan Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra. Officials of various state government departments, including those from industries, energy, public works department, water supply, transport and higher education attended the summit. Government agencies such as the MSRDC, MMRDA, MTDC, MAHDA etc also participated in it. The basic theme of the summit was to discuss and debate key government initiatives in projects in conceptual stage, with a view to get feedback and inputs of professionals from business and industry.

• Power and Non-Conventional Energy,
• Ports and Airports: The Growth Imperative
• Affordable housing & New Township

More than 500 Business executives, investors, entrepreneurs in infrastructure, academicians, economist, researchers, bankers and finance professionals are the target audience of the summit. Mr. Ashok Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra, in his inaugural speech mentioned that Maharashtra is the most progressive state in the country. He said that Common man’s benefit is on his party’s minds and his vision is to see every person of the state becomes Lakhpati. He also mentioned that a new IT policy will be passed by the state cabinet shortly. He talked about the shortage of land available for industrial projects in the state. He said that land acquisition policy is old, but farmers need to get good price for his land, which he is giving up for infrastructure. He wants government organizations and corporate sector to do more to encourage growth of small and medium enterprises in the state. Besides, he raised very crucial issue of global warming and said that everyone should understand the responsibility of creating environmental friendly industries.

Mr. Ajit Gulabchand, chairman of Hindustan Construction Company was facilitated by Mr. Chavan at the function. Mr. Gulabchand said that we should not rest on our laurels; there is a lot to do. There is paucity of power, water. Reforms are necessary for improvement in infrastructure. Targets need to be laid down be the government with and clear policies.

Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal, Dy. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, also expressed his view regarding the importance of infrastructure in Maharashtra.

In the 2nd day of the summit, representatives of the Government agencies and industry body made presentations on the ongoing projects in their respective field such as Urban Infrastructure, Roads and bridges, Power and Non-Conventional Energy, Ports and Airports, Affordable housing & New Township.
The summit ended with the Valedictory session in which various association and industry bodies raised their concerns in conducting business.
