"Enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs through better Infrastructure Facilities"
Final Report Approved by SIDBI

Good infrastructure is a pre-condition for accelerating economic growth –it increases productivity, lowers production costs , raises a country’s /region’s international competitiveness as well as its ability to attract international funds, and at the same time , it delivers major benefits in terms of poverty alleviation and environmental sustainability , too

The concept of ‘Clusters’ is a unique example of ‘how working in collaboration can give companies the advantage of economies of scale’. Experience has shown that such clusters can be further strengthened, and that far larger benefits can be derived if many units come together and jointly through collaborative efforts create infrastructure facilities that could benefit all the members simultaneously.
This study, sponsored by SIDBI and conducted by MEDC, aims at identifying the areas where SMEs, from dyes and drugs sector, can come together to set up such collaborative infrastructure facilities that would have a beneficial impact on their overall efficiency and competitiveness. The locations selected for the study are Tarapur and Vapi ( for dyes) and Ankleshwar and Thane (for drugs).

The final report prepared by medc has been approved by SIDBI.
